The pace of US jobs growth
slowed to a disappointing 142,000 in August in a weak report that clashes with
a wealth of other recent data on the world’s largest economy.
It breaks a six month run of jobs growth above 200,000 and came in well below
analyst expectations of 230,000 new jobs. The unemployment rate fell slightly
from 6.2 to 6.1 per cent.

FT.com: ECB cuts interest rates
The European Central Bank
has cut interest rates to a record low, in a fresh attempt to counter the
threat of economic stagnation across the eurozone.
The governing council cut its benchmark main refinancing rate from 0.15 per cent to 0.05 per cent and said it would charge lenders 0.2 per cent, up from 0.1 per cent, for their deposits parked at the central bank.
